Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star...

Star shaped afro puffs and super cute covers of nursery rhymes equal a new and whimsical illustration.
A young Black girl sings while holding a floating star. Her afro puffs are shaped like stars and have a slight glow.
A little preview of Stella, formerly known as Star Girl.

I was scrolling on IG not too long ago and ran across the artist Solar, who sculpts her natural hair into different shapes. Her work is amazing. (She recently started making wearable afro puffs, and they're available in her store here!)

Not too long after that, I ran across Justin Wilson’s reel of his daughter Shia Justine singing her version of "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star." It was so cute and the melody stayed with me for a while. I kept humming it while doing things around the house.

Then I had a "brain blast" moment where I could feel an idea bubbling up, so I knew it was time to sit down, put the (Apple) pencil in my hand, and get to doodling.

I ended up illustrating a new character, who I named Star Girl (not to be confused with Stargirl), so I’ll probably end up naming her something else. It feels fun to lean into whimsy. I'm going to lean into it more and more.

STELLAAAAA,
Alleanna

Edit: One of my BlueSky followers, Dan Schenker, suggested that her name should be Stella. I absolutely agree!
