Wilbur Buds for the "ber" months.

Why didn’t y’all tell me about Wilbur Buds?

Walk with me:

Last month, my mom and I were looking for a gift for my neighbor’s 102nd birthday. We decided on gifting her a cozy blanket and a box of chocolates because she loves candy. And where can you find a quality blanket and quality chocolates all in one place in the Delaware Valley?

(Not that Bullseye store.)

Boscov's! It's Boscov's.

In old school department store fashion, they still have a small candy department. We asked the lady behind the display, "what kind of candy would a 102 year old like?" The lady suggested the "Wilbur Buds" because they're small enough to pop in your mouth without having to bite into them like a chocolate bar, and they melt in your mouth. That sounded good to us, so we bought a small box as a present. (I would've shared a picture of my perfect present wrapping job, but I forgot to take a picture!)

Fast forward two weeks and my mom and I had a craving for chocolate. We remembered the little "Wilbur Buds" that we got for our neighbor. So today, we made our way to the candy department and we got ourselves a box! We were also able to take a closer look at them. They're shaped like Hershey's Kisses except a bit thicker, there's no foil covering, and the bottom has the letters W-I-L-B-U-R.

And y'all... they are sooo good. So rich. So creamy.

So my mom and I were wondering: who's Wilbur? We assumed it was a Boscov's specific chocolate, so we thought that it was named after someone in the Boscov family. Turns out it's a brand of chocolates named after their founder, Henry Oscar Wilbur.

Then we were wondering what came first, the Hershey's Kiss or the Wilbur Bud?

Turns out... it's the Wilbur Bud. The Wilbur Bud came out in 1894 and the Hershey's Kiss came out in 1907.

We've been bamboozled! I never knewww.

It's the Hydrox Cookie versus the Oreo all over again. I'm on the side of the underdog for this one, though. The Wilbur Buds are way better. I'm a fan.

Here's to more Wilbur Buds in our collective future,
