Time to open up the sketchbook.
Once again, I got the weekly update for my screen time. *inhales sharply* It's time to stop mindlessly scrolling. Fortunately, I know what works for me. I have to switch a habit with a habit. Here's my solution: every time I get the urge to doomscroll, I'm sketching a little something from life instead.
So, uh... here's a sketch of a mini decorative poinsettia on my kitchen table.

I used a mini Moleskine notebook, which I found under a pile of art supplies from 2016, and my trusty Pigma Micron pen that was next to my work area.
I believe we bought the mini poinsettia a few years back at either Jo-Ann's (RIP) or Michaels. We actually bought a few of them because they look so cute around the house. They went right into the Christmas decor rotation.
Sketching the one on the kitchen table made me think about the timing of buying home decor nowadays. Things are displayed much earlier. When I was younger, the back to school displays would come out in late August. Now, I start to see back to school commercials in late July, or early August. Halloween decorations are out at the beginning of the fall season, and stores somewhat skip over Thanksgiving in November and go straight to Christmas.
I have no idea why this happens, but I'm guessing it's late stage capitalism. That's usually my guess. Start earlier, more money made. That's besides the whole point of this post, though.
Here's to sketching instead of scrolling!
