Song of the Day: Suzette by Nami Ondas

'cause you are, yes you are / the only one for me / baby, can't you see?
song of the day: suzette by nami. lettering by alleanna harris.

I heard a snippet of "Suzette" in early March when I was scrolling on TikTok and it stopped me in my tracks. I let it loop over and over and over.

I never heard of Nami before this! After doing a little deep dive, I learned that Nami Ondas (Dylan Ismael Teixeira) is a Cape Verdean songwriter with a CHUNK of songwriting credits under his belt. Here's a great interview with Nami about "Suzette" by Mitch Mosk on Atwood Magazine.

A playlist of songs that Nami has either produced or written.

The things I love about "Suzette":

  • The shuffle beat that reminded me of "The Way You Make Me Feel" by Michael Jackson. (Imagine my surprise when I first heard a similar drum breakdown around the 2 min 9 sec mark.)
  • The quality of Nami's voice! It's soft and it almost floats. It's reminiscent of Green Gartside from Scritti Politti. It makes me want to sing with him.
  • The production of the song. So warm and full sounding.

Overall, it's a fun listen and it always leaves me in a sunny mood.

(By the way, Nami's debut album, WARM, comes out on May 9, 2025. Can't wait.)
