Say hello to Prayer Is, written by the amazing Tameka Fryer-Brown, illustrated by me, and published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux Books for Young Readers/Macmillan Kids!

Summary

A little bit of background...

I just had to illustrate Prayer Is for many reasons. First, I absolutely love Tameka's writing and this is the second book from Tameka that I've illustrated. The first is All the Greatness in You. Her writing feels like a warm hug. I vividly imagined the characters interacting while I first read the manuscript. I love the team at Macmillan too. They're amazing!

The second reason is that the main character reminds me of myself as a kid. I also went to church and Sunday school, I spent quality time with my grandparents, and I had sit down dinners with my family. Just like the main character, as a kid, I learned that you can pray anywhere, anytime.

Another cool thing about Prayer Is is that it's in the same universe as All the Greatness in You, so you'll recognize a few of the characters and meet new characters. The team at Macmillan and I call it "expanding the lore." I absolutely love it.
